Happy New Year! In 2024, I’ve decided to try out a new format of storytelling - short stories! I’ve never really worked on shorter fiction (aside from short scenes for plays) so I was excited to discover the Reedsy Prompts short story contest. It runs weekly and costs $5 to enter a story of 1,000-5,000 words.
I took on the challenge for week one, diving into a genre I read extensively in and have yet to write in — historical fiction! I enjoy light humor in most of my writing, so tried to incorporate that here as well.
